Garbage bins for all residents are available on the Mackerel Beach jetty. Bins are emptied by the Council barge early on Mondays and Fridays throughout the year.
Additional bins are provided by the Council during school holidays however there is not always sufficient for the additional number of residents at holiday times.
Please do not leave ANY garbage/recycling on the jetty outside the bins as this can cause problems for ferry passengers, creates additional difficulty for the Council workers and can become pollution on our beautiful beach.
If there are insufficient bins for your rubbish you will need to wait until the next collection or take your rubbish with you. Please sort your garbage into glass and plastic (yellow bins), paper and cardboard (blue bins) and general household waste (red bins).
The 2025 calendar shows garbage, paper and container recycling days, including extra collection days over the summer period from December to February. It also shows the bulky goods and vegetation pick up days, typically twice a year for each around early autumn and spring. The calendar gives good guidance on what is recyclable, and what is not acceptable for the bulky goods collection.
You can download the 2025 Waste Calendar and see further details at:
Council clean-ups occur in February and August each year. Glass, building material, TV and computer monitors, paint and chemicals are not accepted. Kimbriki Tip accepts electronic equipment and now will accept paints and polystyrene foam.
